Congénies is a medieval village set on the edge of the Vaunage valley in the foothills between the Cevennes National Park and the Carmargue Nature Reserve. 30 minutes from the beaches of the Med.

Here there is lots to do - from the house you can walk or cycle to a number of Roman ruins not on the main tourist routes and enjoy them, usually, all to yourself.

Going slightly further afield takes you to the small medieval town of Sommières with it's Roman bridge and river. There is a very good market here on Saturday and sitting in the square sipping a glass of white wine while eating oysters bought straight from the market is a 'must try' activity!

The river Vidourle is also a wonderful quiet river for canoe based birding or introductory canoe trips. The fishing is also good along the river here, as it is along the other rivers in the area.

Set amongst Roman ruins; Nimes, with Europe’s most complete amphitheatre is 30 min. away.
