The Tour de France is not the only bike ride worth considering if you come to stay!
We are well placed for the touring cyclist, Bob Hansen, see below, used us as his base in the summer of 2005 to tour the route from the Spanish to the Italian border. He told us that the trip from us through Provence was wonderful cycling but he couldn't recommend the route along the coast through Roussillon, too many lorries!
For the less adventurous we also have a range of cycle tracks to suit all; from rough, off road mountain bike trails to our new smooth, flat (ex railway line) route through the valley.
The tourist office has issued the following map to help with route finding.
Bikes can be hired locally and a range of guided bike trips can be organised with our cycling partners who operate from the village of Calvisson a couple of km east of us. Local wine tasting and lunches in rural restaurants can all be part of the itinerary.
If the rough track does not invite you then we have our newly completed cycle route, running for fifty kilometres along the old railway line, through the vine yards and olive groves, linking the medieval villages and the towns of Sommieres and Quissac, this is part of what is to become a National Cycle route.
Caroline & Lobo on the new track.
Bikes & roller blades are available for hire locally from Frederic at: 'WWW.VAUNAGE.PASSION.VELO.free.fr'.
