Pottery Courses and More!

In 2006 we ran our first one - week pottery course at the end of March and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Courses run midweek to midweek to take advantage of cheaper flights from the UK and if the demand is there we will be running more courses soon.

Location and Facilities; The course are held in the garden and outbuildings of Les Trois Puits. and guests stay either at Les Trois Puits or another guesthouse in the village, very close to where we are working. The course are run in both French and English. Knowledge of one of the languages is useful!

It is essentially a handbuilding course. You will produce functional and decorative items to take home. It is suitable for all levels of skill and is designed to be interesting, informative and FUN. Everyone will achieve a measure of success. It is envisaged that you will make about 6 pieces during the course of the week. There are no facilities for using a potters wheel.

Our course tutor is Jo Scott a Quaker potter who runs courses from her Pottery Workshop 'Coach House Crafts' in Mersyside. Jo is a qualified teacher and has a lot of experience in arts & crafts to share with us. Jo is bi-lingual and makes her classes fun with the addition of her Liverpool humour!

Day 1, Wednesday - arrive in time for dinner (7pm) After Dinner there will be a short introductory session.
Days 2, 3 and 4 Thursday, Friday and Saturday, will concentrate on the basic skills of handbuilding; pinching and coiling, slab building, using press moulds and decorating.
Day 5 Sunday - all work in progress will be completed and put to dry. After lunch there will be free time to visit locally.
Day 6, Monday - a free day for you to explore the area while your pots are being bisc fired.
Day 7, Tuesday - Glazing and Firing pots. The pots will be Raku fired. This is a fast and exciting method of firing which is done in the open air.
Day 8, Wednesday is the last day of your holiday and guests will be leaving after breakfast, unless of course you decide to extend your holiday and stay on at Les Trois Puits

The cost is around 600 Euros (approx £400) per week. This includes tuition, materials, accommodation and meals.

Transport to Congenies is good. You can travel by road, rail or air. With advance notice we can arrange to collect you from either the railway station or the airport at Nimes.
